How we research and rank ductless mini split systems, and what we do not do.

1. What we compare

• Size and fit: brand-stated capacity checked against ENERGY STAR’s room chart, with a reminder to verify by load calculation.
• Heating range: what the brand rates operation down to, and whether it publishes capacity at low temperatures.
• Install path: pre-charged line kits, whether a vacuum is needed, power requirements and what the warranty demands.
• Warranty terms: parts and compressor years, registration deadlines and how purchase channel affects coverage.

2. Where the information comes from

Brand specifications and warranty documents; DOE, ENERGY STAR, EPA and IRS pages; field studies; and independent reviews where we could read them.

3. What we do not do

We do not run lab tests, and we do not claim to have used the products we cover. We do not accept payment or free products for placement. We do not show prices, because they change every day; you see the current price on the product page.

4. Updates

We review our picks when a product is discontinued, redesigned or renamed, and when better evidence appears. Corrections are welcome at [email protected].
